The elephant and the rope

A woman walks through a forest, she comes to a clearing and sees a group of elephants, big and majestic. They’re tied to poles in the ground by rope. The woman approaches the man looking after the elephants and says, ‘these are beautiful creatures but I’m amazed that they don’t break free from these small ropes and poles.’
The man replies, ‘from when the elephants are very small we tie them to this rope to a pole in the ground and they cannot break free, they cannot leave. As they grow older, bigger and more powerful, they still believe they cannot break free and stay tied to the rope.’
